TADOX

A patented advanced photocatalytic oxidation process that degrades complex pollutants ahead of biological or membrane treatment, with reduced chemical use.

Ion Exchange (India) Ltd. and a leading Indian research organisation focused on energy and environment entered into an INDION® TADOX® Technology and Trademark License Agreement in February 2024, commercialising the organisation’s patented wastewater treatment technology for industrial applications. The technology can be integrated at the secondary treatment stage, prior to membrane processes, or at the pre-biological stage of a treatment train.

INDION® TADOX® is an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) built on a patented photocatalysis principle. It drives oxidative degradation and mineralisation of targeted pollutants, removing colour, dissolved organics and recalcitrant organics (RCOD) from wastewater streams, while reducing the chemical dosing and sludge volume conventional physicochemical processes require.

How It Works

A patented photocatalysis process generates highly reactive oxidising species when exposed to light, which attack and break down complex organic pollutant molecules — including recalcitrant compounds that resist conventional biological or physicochemical treatment.

Applied at the pre-biological stage, TADOX helps downstream biological systems tolerate shock loads, removes toxicity and colour, and improves biodegradability before the stream reaches secondary treatment. Applied at the secondary stage instead, it improves membrane life and reduces the load reaching downstream tertiary treatment or multi-effect evaporation.

Where TADOX Fits

Pre-Biological Stage

Helps biological systems bear shock load, removes toxicity and colour, and improves biodegradability ahead of secondary treatment.

Secondary Treatment Stage

Improves membrane life and reduces the load on downstream tertiary treatment or multi-effect evaporation.

Industrial & Municipal Wastewater

The same technology treats industrial effluent, municipal wastewater, sewage and open drains.

Why It Matters

Degrades Pollutants Conventional Treatment Can’t

Oxidative degradation and mineralisation removes colour, dissolved organics and recalcitrant organics (RCOD) from difficult wastewater streams.

Reduces Chemical Use and Sludge Volume

The process is designed to use less chemical dosing and generate less sludge than conventional physicochemical treatment for the same duty.

Retrofittable and Modular

TADOX is designed to integrate into existing and new STPs, IETPs and CETPs at either the pre-biological or secondary treatment stage.
