STEAM AND CONDENSATE SYSTEMS

Boiler water treatment chemicals for reliable steam systems

Chemistry across feedwater, boiler, steam and condensate-return circuits.

Overview

INDION boiler-water treatment programmes use selected chemistries to manage oxygen corrosion, scale, sludge, pH and condensate return. The programme follows the boiler circuit from feedwater through the drum and steam system to the condensate return. Chemical selection depends on boiler pressure, feed-water quality, metallurgy, steam use and operating practice.

Applications

  • Feedwater

Oxygen-control chemistry selected for the boiler feedwater and circuit.

  • Boiler drum and boiler water

    Scale, sludge and pH-control programmes.

  • Steam system

Antifoam or steam-purity chemistry where required by operating conditions.

  • Condensate return

Neutralizing and filming amines for suitable condensate-return programmes.

Process use and chemical role

Chemistry by boiler-system stage

Process stage or systemChemical or operational role
FeedwaterOxygen scavengers are selected to reduce oxygen-related corrosion risk in the feedwater and boiler circuit.
Boiler drum and boiler waterPhosphate or carbonate treatments, sludge conditioners and pH-control chemistry manage scale-forming constituents and suspended deposits.
Steam systemAntifoam or steam-purity chemistry may be included where the operating conditions require it.
Condensate returnNeutralizing and filming amines are used in suitable programmes to protect condensate-return lines.

Benefits and intended outcomes

  • OUTCOME 1

The programme addresses oxygen corrosion, scale, sludge, pH control, steam purity and condensate-line protection.

  • OUTCOME 2

Treatment chemistry follows the boiler circuit from feedwater through steam and back to condensate return.

  • OUTCOME 3

The treatment target and product selection depend on boiler and water-system conditions.

Product range and examples

  • Feedwater and boiler-water chemistry

Oxygen scavengers, phosphate or carbonate treatments, sludge conditioners and pH boosters.

  • Steam and condensate chemistry

Neutralizing and filming amines; antifoams where required.

Selection and implementation

SYSTEM-SPECIFIC SELECTION

Design the programme for the boiler and connected water circuit. Review feedwater analysis, operating pressure, makeup and condensate return, steam use, metallurgy, sampling and control capability. Product and dosing details are site-specific.

FAQs

What chemicals are used in boiler-water treatment?

Typical programme families include oxygen scavengers, phosphate or carbonate additives, sludge conditioners, pH-control products, condensate amines and antifoams where required.

Where are condensate amines used?

Neutralizing and filming amines are selected for suitable condensate-return programmes.

Can one treatment programme suit every boiler?

No. Chemistry and dosing depend on boiler pressure, water quality, system materials and operating practice.
