Where Chlogen replaced hypochlorite

Case Study 01
Power plant, South India
A small power plant in South India faced a problem with its cooling water system. As per their standard practice, sodium hypochlorite was dosed in the cooling water treatment programme as an oxidizing biocide. Sodium hypochlorite is a non-selective biocide, and hence it consumes a higher volume of chemicals to reach desired FRC levels. To address the issue, we installed INDION Chlogen. An FRC level of 0.5 was easily achieved with the dosing of ClO2. Apart from addressing the key issue, INDION Chlogen also helped save substantially on operating cost, as the system was required to be operated only for 4 hours a day.

Case Study 02
Chemical company, near Mumbai
A chemical company near Mumbai faced an MIC problem in the MS pipeline of its cooling tower due to high microbial activity. As per the client’s standard practice, a high volume of oxidizing biocide was dosed, which led to increased treatment cost. It also increased the electrolyte concentration in the circuit. The slug dose of oxidizing biocide had little effect and led to severe under-deposit corrosion. To address the issue, we suggested dosing of ClO2 using INDION Chlogen. ClO2 has a high and stable oxidizing property. It destroys existing biofilm, eliminating the breeding ground for microorganisms and preventing it from building up again. The installation of INDION Chlogen resolved the MIC issue, the cost of the treatment programme reduced considerably, and the system became corrosion free.
