Multi-effect distillation (MED)

Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) is an energy-efficient thermal desalination process in which seawater is evaporated and condensed through a series of stages, known as effects, operating at progressively lower pressures and temperatures. The vapour generated in one effect serves as the heating medium for the next, enabling efficient reuse of thermal energy and reducing overall energy consumption.

Our Indion MED solutions are designed to deliver reliable freshwater production for industrial and municipal applications. These systems can utilise available low-grade steam or waste heat, making them particularly suitable for facilities seeking to optimise energy utilisation while ensuring a dependable supply of desalinated water.
