Ion Exchange has played a pioneering role in this field for over two decades, anticipating the impending water scarcity as early as the mid-1980s. They advocated water recycling and the integration of various separation processes, including physico-chemical, biological, and membrane methods, to maximize water recovery.
Recognizing the need for alternative water sources due to limited freshwater availability, Ion Exchange took a significant step in 1997 by commissioning India’s largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant at the Gujarat Electricity Board’s Sikka thermal power station. Since then, they have continued to develop and install large-capacity seawater desalination plants for clients in India and abroad.

MEMBRANE SOLUTION
Reverse Osmosis uses membranes to remove salt and impurities from seawater. RO is efficient, scalable, and can save energy with the right systems. Cleaning seawater before using RO improves filter performance, and energy-saving measures can reduce power usage by 30-40%, making RO a great choice for obtaining freshwater from the sea.
Electrodialysis is a versatile technology that employs membranes and electricity to remove salt from seawater, but its applications go beyond producing drinking water. It can also be utilized to extract salt, de-salt soy sauce, and recover valuable substances from salt-containing wastewater. In essence, it offers various practical uses beyond just purifying drinking water.
